Bog Wizards 2- Rise of the Elder Gods

Here’s the latest from the ever prolific Rob Jackson, apart from being a contender for ‘best title for a comic 2009’ it’s a good read. This fantasy comedy shows some classic Rob moments, from the polite monster living in the mountains (“In my thousand years of existence this is the most disgraceful display of rudeness I have ever come across” and “eat you? I can’t eat you….I only eat minerals of course”) to chortle-worthy moments where the main character hacks the wrong guy to death.

A top small press adventure.

Bog Wizards 2 comes with a board game, some assembly is required but you get great handy hints like: Stick the board onto cardboard such as old cereal boxes and put the board on a flat surface such as a table. I’ve not played this yet but it actually looks pretty well thought out, with twists , turns and collectable objects like in the old fashioned adventure games. ‘Pervert Elves steal your shoes, miss a turn’, ‘You suffer from Ennui go back 1 square’, ‘You find the goblet of Xanatu, pick up any items left on the board’. Fantastic.

The pasty anthology

I'm pleased to announce that one man ideas factory Rob Jackson (not pictured) is doing a Greggs based anthology. This is a pretty exciting idea and contributing is next on my list, after finishing my Accent UK submission. It's an unfortunate fact that there is a Greggs near my place of work, which means I succumb to the delights of the cheese & onion pasty more often than is good for me. Thankfully I manage to resist the cream doughnut and 'millionaires' shortbread (£1.35each), which would top off this feast of doom for my entire cardiovascular system. Ho hum.

It begins, I hope...

I've started work on my Accent UK Victoriana submission at last. It's been difficult bringing it all together but after weeks of procrastination and tea drinking I've made some headway. Here's a sneak peek, warts and all (not to mention a doodled nude scribbled out in the top left hand corner) of my draft first page and character portrait. I think he will be called Lord Whitethroat.

I can't seem to get these things to link to a bigger image, I'm an idiot. I'll sort this for next time, brewtime's almost over.

Slim pickings

I've been struggling to put btm to chair recently, and consequently pen to paper, this always happens after a reasonably productive spell. I managed to get this done for the Feb issue of Geoscientist magazine. Unfortunatley I didn't manage to meet the deadline for the March issue. Sorry everyone! I'm working on a submission for the Accent UK anthology on Victoriana too, expect some sneak peaks of this soon too.

Welcome, Wilkomen, Bienvenue, Croeso

Hello everybody, welcome to my blog. My first blog. The official blog of Stonechat Productions, which at present is me, Dave Hughes. I do monthly comic strips in Geoscientist magazine and the odd small press book, The Immeasurable Adventures of Gorky Park in 2004 and now...

I finally managed to finish my NEW small press book THOMAS WOGAN IS DEAD. Here's a brief synopsis:

Thomas Wogan is busy getting on with his life (going to work, being obsessed with Delia Smith) until finds himself in a strange waiting room with nothing but a ticket and his spectacles to protect his modesty. It’s not clear what’s happened but perhaps the other characters in the waiting room, a cuckoo, a sea urchin, a natterjack toad, a bat, a fish and an egg, can shed some light on the matter….
